WETTER, Germany (BRAIN)—Abus, the market leader for locks in Germany, has set up a U.S. subsidiary to help grow its bicycle, motorcycle and marine security business in North America.

The company, named Abus Mobile Security, Inc., is based in Chicago.

Fritz Bohl will serve as general manager of the operation. Bohl, a German native, emigrated to the U.S. 10 years ago.

The main objective of Abus Mobile Security is to improve customer service and support distributors and key accounts in the U.S. and Canadian markets. In doing so, the company plans to increase marketing and public relations efforts.

Abus' bicycle products are distributed through J & B Importers in the U.S. and Cycles Lambert in Canada. Its motorcycle products are sold through Parts Unlimited and Kimpex.

The company said in a press release that its new U.S. subsidiary aims to further its goals of securing market share in the U.S. and Canada; become an essential product in a range of retail shops; and gain brand recognition for its made-in-Germany products.
