FRIEDRICHSCHAFEN, Germany (BRAIN)—The new Giant Accend 1 bicycle was chosen as the gold medal winner in the Cross/Fitness/Speed bike category of the 2009 Eurobike Awards at the Eurobike trade show last week.
The Accend 1 blends technical innovations like shock absorbers integrated into a lightweight aluminum frame. The bicycle was one of only eight gold medal winners in a competition that included more than 400 entries from 25 countries.
This Accend 1 was awarded the gold medal by an international panel of experts in a presentation held on the first day of Eurobike 2009.
The Eurobike Awards jury selected winners based on design and function, and offered the following comments on the Giant Accend 1: “A bicycle is based on a triangular frame. The designers of the Giant have taken this shape and used it deliberately and consistently. In essence, the Giant Bicycle is a complicated, full-suspension bike, but that doesn’t show on the outside. And that’s the genius of the whole thing.”
The Accend series of bicycles, designed by Morder Yang and Roger Huang, are built by Giant Manufacturing in Taiwan. Presently, only a few of Giant’s global sales divisions carry the Accend series. The United States is not currently among the countries that sell the bicycles.
This is the third year in a row that Giant has won the Eurobike Gold Award in this category. In 2007, the Giant City Storm won a gold medal, and in 2008 so did the Giant City Speed.
