WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA (BRAIN)—A Workshop on ASTM Standards on Trial: The Impact of the Absence of Standards on Product Liability Litigation in a Mock Trial (Commotio Cordis in the Courtroom), will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee F08 on Sports Equipment and Facilities, the workshop will be held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia, in conjunction with the Nov. 11-13 standards development meetings of the committee.
The workshop will consist of a team of lawyers from across the United States who will present a mock trial. This program will demonstrate what happens to standards, or the lack of standards, in product liability litigation. Members of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) Legal Task Force are working together to produce a program that is both educational and entertaining. There will be opportunities to sit on a jury and to decide the case based on presentations by both the plaintiffs and the defendants. You can expect fireworks, as well as humor to take place in the trial.
Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes Nov. 4. The fee to attend the workshop for ASTM members is $75 USD for online registration and $100 USD for on-site registration. The fee for non-ASTM members is $100 USD online and $125 USD on site. There is no fee for presenters and students with a valid I.D.
