Hayes Bicycle Group Cuts Jobs in U.S.

Published July 21, 2008

MEQUON, WI (BRAIN)—Hayes Bicycle Group has cut a number of positions at its Mequon and Milwaukee facilities as part of a planned reorganization.

HBG’s European and Asian operations are unaffected, and no further personnel reductions are planned.

“This action is part of a comprehensive plan to refocus and reorganize the Hayes Bicycle Group for increased success, made all the more critical by recent increases in material costs and the resultant market challenges," said Kurt Person, general manager at HBG. "We will continuously monitor and adjust our business to remain competitive in terms of skills, talent, and product offering. HBG is in the process of returning as a competitive, innovative leader in the bicycle industry.”

Person took over as general manager for Rhonda Kirkwood in April. Kirkwood left the company on her own accord. She had served as general manager and vice president since 2001.
