Downieville Classic Kicks Off Today

Published July 10, 2008

DOWNIEVILLE, CA (BRAIN)—The 13th annual Downieville Classic kicks off today with four World Championship titles up for grabs.

Last year, more than 700 riders participated in the cross-country and downhill field. The unofficial mayor of Downieville and event organizer, Greg Williams, once again will be looking for huge numbers.

"The Classic is my tribal gathering and it keep getting bigger and better," Williams said after last year's Classic.

Mark Weir and Jason Moeschler will be duking it out once again for the all-mountain crown.

This year's Downieville Classic features the Pixie Cross World Championships (see picture), and the Robot Dancing World Championships.

On top of all this, Downieville features a bicycle expo, live music, fire dancing, film festival, trail shuttles and group rides.
