UBI Hires Three Instructors

Published January 16, 2008

ASHLAND, OR (BRAIN)—United Bicycle Institute (UBI) has hired three bicycle mechanic instructors with Jeff Menown, Nathan Riddle and Matt Eames.

“Given Jeff’s experience from a suppliers side is a great addition, he should be able to help explain to beginning mechanics why a bike gets the spec’ it does. Nathan is a very accomplished racer as well as working as a service manager so he has his mechanical strengths and Matt’s years at Shimano and as a race mechanic is a great addition to our program,” said Ron Sutphin, UBI’s president.

“Our mechanics classes are in high demand and adding instructors should help us keep up. Plus bikes are getting more technical these days so having this diversity of instruction will help students get what they want,” he added.

Menown served as product manager for both the American Bicycle Group and Giant. In addition to racing, Riddle spent many years as a shop mechanic, as well as working for United Parts Distributors. While at Shimano Eames stared on Shimano’s Mountain Bike Maintenance and Repair DVD as well as being apart of Shimano’s Multi-Service MTB program. Two of UBI’s mechanic instructors recently left the school, so the net gain with these three recent hires is one instructor.
