ARCADIA, CA (BRAIN)—If you’d like to help bring some holiday spirit and cheer to kids, make sure to join the Holiday Toys and Mittens Ride in the communities of Arcadia and Monrovia, California, this Saturday, Dec. 1.
The Toys and Mittens Ride kicks-off the new Urban Expeditions program, a year-long series of monthly community-focused bicycle rides presented by Cyclists Inciting Change through Live Exchange (CICLE), and sponsored by REI, that encourages residents to explore their neighborhoods on two wheels.
The ride will gather toys and warm articles of clothing from local businesses collecting winter items for families in need. Each year, the Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services gives these toys and warm layers to local families and children.
Those who would like to donate toys or clothing should drop by Helen’s Cycles in Arcadia, Monrovia Coffee Company, Stan’s Monrovia Bikes or 24 Hour Fitness Arcadia now through November 30. All toy and clothing donations should be delivered new and unwrapped.
The relaxed-pace ride will start at REI Arcadia and wind through the neighborhoods of Arcadia and Monrovia, and will include stops for toy pick-ups at participating merchants. Riders will enjoy holiday tunes and free baked goods from Scratch Cookies and Bakery, and pizza and lasagna donated by Zelo Cornmeal Crust Pizzas.
Ride registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and ride departs at 11 a.m. The ride is free. Riders should meet at REI Arcadia located at 214 N. Santa Anita Ave., Arcadia, CA 91006.
