Published October 16, 2007

BOULDER, CO (BRAIN)—Boulder-based event organizer DBC Events has announced details about Excel Sports CrossVegas scheduled for September 26 in Las Vegas.

The UCI Category 2 race will attract top U.S. Cyclocross racers as well as Europeans chasing all important UCI points to the “Entertainment Capital of the World” for an early Cyclocross season showdown.

Title sponsor is another Boulder company Excel Sports, a leading online and catalog retailer of bicycles, parts and accessories. Excel Sports president Bruce Hodgkins described his sponsorship. “This is an exciting opportunity for an international Cyclocross event that coincides with Interbike. I’ve been to over 30 bicycle tradeshows over the years and I am excited to support something at a show that embodies the essence of the business. DBC events puts on first class races. We are thrilled to be involved.”

Cyclocross racing has become the fastest growing segment of bicycle racing in the U.S. during the last few seasons with its combination of high speed riding and off-the-bike running. DBC Events President Chris Grealish described Cyclocross, “It’s the most intense 60 minutes of racing that’s possible on 2 wheels and it’s the easiest for spectators to follow.”

The course will be at Desert Breeze Soccer Complex, a Clark County facility in western Las Vegas 6 miles from the “Vegas Strip.” Fully lighted, the park features grassy slopes and paved paths that will make for a challenging course. “The location is a short distance straight out Desert Inn Road from the Strip,” explained Grealish, “whether you ride, taxi, or drive there it’s easy to reach.”

Racing categories and schedules are Elite Women at 7:30 pm and Elite Men at 9:00 pm. The later start times will permit attendees of the Interbike Show ample opportunity to complete their business and head to the race.

Planned activities at the event include a beer garden. “We’ve got a full moon that night, great competition, the best announcers, food, drink and Elvis working the lap board, it’ll be a show worthy of Las Vegas,” Grealish said.

Top U.S. Cyclocrossers will be making appearances at the race. Grealish explained, “We have some great athlete announcements planned in the next few weeks. The quality of the field will amaze people.”

Excel Sports CrossVegas will be taped for broadcast on Altitude Sports and Entertainment Network later in the fall reaching over 5.2 million households in 10 western states.
