Shimano's new gravel shoes feature Pontoon Cleat System

Published August 29, 2025

(BRAIN) — Shimano's S-PHYRE RX910 shoes were designed with the help of its pro gravel riders and feature what the brand calls a "revolutionary" Pontoon Cleat System.

With gravel riders needing road-level power transfer but also mountain bike-level off-road traction and walking stability, Shimano created the Pontoon Cleat System that has a pair of modular and replaceable TPU contact blocks. The brand says it improves shoe-to-pedal contact, optimizing power transfer while maintaining SPD compatibility and quick engagement.

Unlike traditional outsole-mounted contact blocks, the RX910's replaceable pontoons are part of the cleat interface. This means they move with a rider's cleat position — vertically or laterally — for support and efficiency, no matter how cleats are set up.

The shoes also feature a carbon midsole, Shimano's stiffest with seamless construction; dual drainage holes; TPU lugged outsole with lugs to shed mud and provide traction; anti-twist stabilizer heel cup; and dual BOA fit system Li2 Dials.

A pair weighs 304 grams for a size 43, comes in black, white, blue, and deep sea, and has an MSRP of $480.
