(BRAIN) — Headlokt, an Australian sports helmet company, has launched what it is says is the world's first helmet that also functions as a bike lock.
The helmet has integrated retractable stainless-steel combination lock that is compact and flexible to secure bikes, scooters, or skateboards.
It meets a number of international bicycle helmet safety standards and has been approved for sales in Australia, New Zealand, America, and the European Union.
Headlokt founder Lisa Cotton came up with the idea during the COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne. Visiting a bike shop, she forgot her lock so she threaded her helmet straps around the bike to deter thieves.
"Headlokt started as a simple idea to keep heads protected and bikes secure and has since transformed into a world-first product, combining both safety and security in one," Cotton said. The helmets also contain a spot for discretely securing a Bluetooth tracker.
The helmets are now available in Australia for pre-order on Headlokt.com.
For the U.S. market, the company is working with Kitzuma for distribution and third-party logistics. U.S. stock is expected to arrive in October. Dealers interested in stocking the helmet can contact mark.watkin@headlokt.com or lisa.cotton@headlokt.com.
