VanMoof auxiliary power source nearly doubles its e-bikes' range

Published April 21, 2021

AMSTERDAM (BRAIN) — E-bike manufacturer VanMoof has developed a removable power source that nearly doubles the energy capacity of its S3 and X3 models.

The PowerBank fits at the junction of the downtube and seat tube. It can be charged indoors and extends the range of the S3 and X3 e-bikes an extra 28-62 miles — depending on pedal-assist level — and closer to that of an average electric car, according to VanMoof. The PowerBank can charge the bike's main battery while at rest or riding.

MSRP for the PowerBank is $348 (plus $25 shipping if not ordered at the same time as a new bike). It's available for order now and will ship in June.

The PowerBank is the latest in a series of added features to VanMoof's bikes:

  • Both e-bike models now work with Apple's Find My app.
  • Matrix display visibility.
  • Redesigned fender flaps and pedals.
  • Improved internal wiring.
