Sklar Bikes is known for titanium and steel mountain bikes and all-road bikes, and this summer it's releasing a trail-focused model: the Sweet Spot hardtail.
Made in the USA from 4130 steel tubing, each Sweet Spot is built to order with an approximate three-month lead time, less than a fourth of Sklar's normal custom frame lead time.
The Sweet Spot is designed to be well-balanced that makes for efficient climbing and confident descending on rides short and long. It is not a 6-inch trailbike that flies down hills but drags going up, nor is it a cross-country race bike that climbs well but lacks stability on descents.
The Sweet Spot came to be through designing, building and riding hundreds of mountain bikes in the past decade. In that time, Sklar has refined geometry and materials to create a versatile mountain bike.
Two build options are available, in addition to a frame-only option ($2,850). The Alloy Build features SRAM GX and a RockShox Pike ($7,430), or the Carbon Build that comes with SRAM XX1 and components from Enve Composites ($11,110). For more information, sklarbikes.com.
