KATY, Texas (BRAIN) — Academy Sports + Outdoors will continue to expand its footprint this year by opening 15 to 17 new stores, with one in Knightdale, North Carolina, already up and running last week and another in Greenwood, Indiana, scheduled for April.
Academy opened 14 stores in 2023.
In addition to apparel, footwear, camping equipment, and hunting and fishing gear, Academy sells assembled bikes, including Schwinn, Huffy, Mongoose, and Pacific. It also sells hunting and fishing licenses.
Founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas and headquartered outside of Houston, Academy has expanded to 283 stores in 18 states. In the fourth quarter last year, Academy had net sales of $1.8 billion, a 2.8% increase year-over-year, and opened seven stores.
In 2023, net sales were $6.2 billion, down 3.7% compared to 2022.
