China-made carbon full suspension frames and carbon rims granted tariff exclusions thanks to Santa Cruz petition

Published May 8, 2020

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The U.S. Trade Representative has granted tariff exclusions to imports of Chinese carbon fiber front and rear frame triangles and carbon fiber rims. The exclusions exempt importers from paying the 25% additional tariffs imposed on those products as part of the Trump administration's trade war with China. Importers can also get refunds for previously paid tariffs on the items.

While all importers bringing in parts meeting the description will receive the tariff exclusions and refunds, these exclusions were requested by Santa Cruz Bicycles. The exclusions expire August 7 unless extended.

The exclusions apply to "Front triangles of carbon fiber for bicycle frames," "Rear wheel swing arms of carbon fiber for bicycle frames," and "Bicycle wheel rims, of carbon fiber, with outer reinforcement around nipple holes, each valued at least $100."
