KHS back to normal, but more secure, after hacking blamed on Russians

Published March 9, 2020

RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, Calif. (BRAIN) — KHS Bicycles is back to normal following a system hacking that started about two weeks ago.

Wayne D. Gray, the distributor's vice president, said its computer systems have been completely recovered and came back online late last week. "We are currently invoicing all orders shipped over the last two weeks," he said Friday. "The invoicing process will likely take us until the end of the weekend. We are shipping orders normally from today on."

He said following the episode, the company now has bigger servers, a new stronger firewall, more secure server software, stronger passwords and new backup protocols that can be reinstalled more quickly.

"We are very glad to have this behind us!" he said.

Gray said the security firm that KHS hired blamed the hacking on a Russian group. It was "very sophisticated, according to the security firm," he said.
