Introducing Your BMX Hall Of Fame Inductees For 2026

INDUSTRY : Oakley founder JIM JANNARD

• Jim Jannard founded Oakley out of his garage in 1975, starting with a mere $300 investment. The original Oakley product was a Grip, whose distinctive material ("Unobtainium") later became a key feature in future Oakley products.
• Jannard's long-standing support of BMX, motocross, surfing, and other action sports, thru Oakley, helped shape modern sponsorship and athlete-marketing strategies.­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

WOMAN : MELANIE CLINE
• Cline is recognized as one of winningest World Champions in BMX history - with a total of two Murray World Cup wins, 4-consecutive IBMXF/UCI World Championships and 5th place at the UCI Elite Championships level.• Having raced since the age of 7, Michigan's Melanie is a 9-time NBL National #1 20" and 1985 ABA NAG (National Age Group) #1 for 10 Girls. She also won five ABA Grands and one USBA Grands. She turned PRO in 1996, and continued to race on into the 2000's.­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TRACK OPERATIONS : KENNY & JOANNE ALLEN

• Maryland's Allen family were longtime Track operators, having ran Howard County BMX from the 70's through 80's, on into the 90's along with Columbia BMX (which hosted several ABA Nationals). During their time, Kenny & Joanne were running the only indoor track on East Coast.• Kenny was also one of ABA's main National track builders during the 90's. Their sons "Gnarly Neal" and Billy followed in their father's footsteps, building many BMX tracks all across the country.­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TRACK OPERATIONS : JACK & PAULINE DOHERTY

­• Minnesota's Jack Doherty was a BMX Promoter ahead of his time. Along with wife Pauline, they ran multiple tracks all over Minnesota - but is probably best known for putting on the Rondo Classic. They also started Tahoe Racing, before moving to Arizona to work for ABA.• Later on, Jack became Factory Powerlite's team manager and was an instrumental influencer for Rulebook changes such as creating Mixed Opens, scrambling motos, and adding a specific Girls column to Team sheets (among many others).­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 EARLY FREESTYLE : DAVE NOURIE

­• Nourie started his career as the first and only Flatland-only HARO team rider in late 1984, pulling off original tricks such as the Gumby, Nourie Handstand, Peg Spin, and the Organ Grinder. With a score of AFA contest wins, Dave was ranked Top-10 in the U.S. Pro class from 1986 through 1989 in flatland - and returned to compete (and win) in 2016's AFA "Old's Cool" class.• Throughout his time on Haro, Nourie performed on both U.S. and World Tours - and returned in 2016 on Haro's Legends Team tour. Still to this day, Nourie continues to ride and teach kids the art of Flatland BMX.­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

EARLY RACER : BRENT ROMERO

­• During a BMX career spanning just seven years (1981-1988), Romero compiled a résumé that ranks among the most decorated and successful in the sport's history.• His unmatched speed, consistency, and championship performances on BMX's biggest stages, Brent Romero established himself as one of the defining racers of the 1980s.­

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 FREESTYLE : STEPHEN MURRAY

­• Born in the UK, Stephen Murray became a successful and stylish British BMX racer, known for doing 360's or backflips during a race, and followed his BMX dream by moving to America in 1999.
• Murray quickly become known for his double backflips, 360 backflips, and turndown backflips - winning his first of many action sports Gold medals in 2001.
• In 2007, at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals, Stephen suffered a career-ending injury - sending shockwaves thru the action sports community. In 2017, he'd publish a book about his life, titled Staying Strong: An Immensely Human Story.
• To this day, Stephen Murray's success and struggles continue to be an inspiration for many BMXers.

RACER : TODD "TC" CORBITT
­
• This Florida-born icon started racing BMX in 1980, clawing and climbing his way up the BMX ladder to Pro success. In 1988, his move to SoCal helped him become Auburn's first sponsored Pro and he'd rep the brand on multiple summer tours, visiting bike shops and teaching clinics.• Later, as GT's Team Manager in the mid-90's, Corbitt led the program to numerous national and world titles across amateur and professional classes and was instrumental in bringing international riders, such as Dale Holmes, Thomas Allier, and Robert DeWilde, to the U.S. pro circuit.
• Todd still works in the bike industry today, as the 700c product manager for Jamis Bicycles.­
