May 1- Irvine CA- The National Bicycle Dealers Association (NBDA), in collaboration with Industry Insights, Inc., has officially launched its 2025 Cost of Doing Business Survey, one of the most comprehensive financial benchmarking tools available to the Specialty Bicycle Retail industry.
The survey is now open to all Specialty Bicycle Retailers, regardless of NBDA membership, and will remain open through May 27, 2026.
This annual research initiative provides the most current and detailed comparative financial performance data available for bicycle retailers in North America. The study is designed to help shop owners better understand their own business performance, identify operational strengths and weaknesses, and uncover opportunities for improvement.
Based on 2025 calendar year data, the updated study reflects the rapidly evolving retail landscape and includes expanded categories such as online sales, click-and-collect operations, the used bike market, and the growing e-bike segment.
Participation in the confidential survey provides retailers with access to robust benchmarking data segmented by revenue size, store format (single vs. multi-location), geographic region, and store size. It also includes comparisons against high-performing retailers, defined as those in the top 25% based on before-tax return on assets.
The final report enables retailers to benchmark their financial and operational performance against industry peers across a wide range of metrics. While differences from industry averages do not automatically indicate required changes, they provide critical insight into potential areas for improvement and strategic decision-making.
The study is compiled and analyzed by Industry Insights, Inc., a nationally recognized research and consulting firm specializing in industry operating studies, compensation analysis, and customized business intelligence tools.
Retailers who participate will receive a complimentary copy of the final report, enhanced with expanded insights and analysis designed to support business performance and long-term profitability. Retailers who do not participate will have the opportunity to purchase the report later in 2026 through the NBDA website. Suppliers and industry partners will also have access to the report to better understand market dynamics and support retail success.
Heather Mason, Executive Director of the NBDA, emphasized the importance of broad participation:
"Each year, this study becomes more valuable because it reflects the real financial and operational realities of Specialty Bicycle Retailers. The more participation we receive, the stronger and more accurate the insights become. We strongly encourage all retailers, regardless of size or membership status, to contribute. In return, the report provides extremely valuable benchmarking data that can directly support better decision-making, stronger margins, and long-term business health."
The NBDA encourages all specialty bicycle retailers to participate and contribute to this critical industry resource.
