After more than 17 years, growing into what has become the go to place in the Southeast for mountain bikers, gravel cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts, the dedicated owners of Mulberry Gap are looking for someone to pass the torch onto for the next phase of Mulberry Gap’s life! The roots of this unique business model is a sort of happy little accident. The friends-turned-family who purchased the property in the lush mountains of Ellijay, GA didn’t ride mountain bikes much less predict how in demand a different version of their vision would be. Rather than stick to a plan, it didn’t take long for them to realize that the mountain bike & outdoor communities would shape their business & services into what they are today.
Mulberry Gap’s heavily wooded 15.6 acres sit at the base of and adjacent to the infamous Pinhoti, Bear Creek, & Mountaintown Creek trail systems along with an endless number of gravel roads all offering countless opportunities for riding, hiking, running, and exploring the mountains.
The basecamp offers guests & those passing through a whole range of accommodations & services focused on making each visitor's experience as enjoyable and fluid as possible. For the full “summer camp-style” experience, guests can stay on-site and choose between 11 comfortable, heated and air- conditioned glampy cabins which house between two and six guests each. For those leaning towards a more rustic experience there are also eight campsites that can accommodate hammocks, tents, car/van camping and even a couple RVs. Bike packers, through-hikers, and anyone passing through are always welcome to stop for a beer, meal, and to charge their devices. For those not interested in tackling every climb, Mulberry Gap has on-site shuttle services (vehicles & trailers included in the sale) that take riders & hikers to a number of desirable starting points. In case someone forgot something or has a mechanical issue, there is even a store on site with all the things one would need and then some. One of the biggest draws for those aiming to spend their day in the mountainous playground are Mulberry Gap’s available services like home-cooked breakfasts & dinners, hearty brown-bag lunches for the trail, and shuttles to trail locations throughout the area. Guests are invited to fuel up on an over the top sit-down breakfast before their day in the mountains, ride or shuttle to a number of destinations, then replenish themselves upon their return (and shower) with more great food and a few beers (available for purchase or BYOB).
Mulberry Gap plays hosts for & supports numerous events like the 350-mile Trans North Georgia race, Ultras, and other group events. Skills clinics, women’s retreats, bike demos and Press Camps for various outdoor industries are some of the many things that have benefited from the wide range of accommodations offered at Mulberry Gap’s base camp. Evenings can be enjoyed around a campfire, on the deck, and relaxing in one of the multiple outdoor hot tubs. There is even a custom onsite mountain bike trail and pump track built by Cohutta Trail Designs for those who still have some energy left after a long day in the mountains. With all of this, there is still plenty room for expansion whether it be more cabins or onsite features, depending on the new owner’s vision of its next phase.
