Madison, WI – December 19, 2023 – To close out 2023, Planet Bike has awarded over $29,600 to non- profit organizations across the U.S. These groups are doing outstanding work to get more people riding bikes by promoting the healthy and joyful benefits of cycling to people of all ages. Each organization has its own unique combination of educational programing, community outreach policies and infrastructure initiatives to expand access and to create a safer, more equitable bicycle-friendly America.
Each year, as a proud member of 1% for the Planet® (an alliance of businesses that are financially committed to creating a healthy planet), Planet Bike pledges time, resources and profits that amount to 1% of annual sales. This commitment aligns with the company’s mission, values, and belief that the bicycle provides powerful solutions for creating a healthier planet.
To date, Planet Bike has donated over $2.64 million to organizations working to create vibrant, healthy, and equitable transportation networks across the country.

The League of American Bicyclists represents bicyclists in the movement to create safer roads, stronger communities and a bicycle-friendly America. They define standards and share best practices to engage diverse communities and build a powerful, unified voice for bicycling.
National Interscholastic Cycling Association Wisconsin League (NICA WI) - https://wisconsinmtb.org/
The Wisconsin NICA League is committed to providing a positive cycling experience for middle and high school aged students of all cycling levels using coaching methods founded in their FIERC values of Fun, Inclusivity, Equity, Respect and Community. The WI league has over 70 teams, 850 coaches and 1,700 student athletes. It provides a seven-race series in the fall and promotes non-race related riding though programs such NICA Adventure, Girls Riding Together (GRiT) and Teen Trail CORPS.
Boise Bike Project - https://www.boisebicycleproject.org/
The Boise Bike Project is a community focused non-profit that promotes the personal, social and environmental benefits of bicycling. They strive to build a stronger bicycling community through providing a bicycle recycling center and an educational workspace in a diverse and non-threatening atmosphere. Their core programs include youth bike repair, youth bike giveaways and adult educational programing accessible to all people.
International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) – https://www.imba.com/
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is the worldwide leader in mountain bike advocacy, and the only organization in the U.S. focused entirely on trails and access, for all types of mountain bikers in all parts of the country. “More trails close to home” is a key focus at IMBA and their goal is to grow the quantity and quality of mountain bike trails in communities across the U.S. To achieve this, they aim to partner with 250 new communities on equitable access to diverse, high-quality trails by 2025.
Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison (FB4K Madison) - https://fb4k.org/
Bikes 4 Kidz Madison is geared toward helping children ride into a happier, healthier life by providing bikes to historically excluded communities in Dane County. They’re striving towards transportation equity and deepening meaningful relationships with communities of color and low-income populations. As an added bonus, they keep thousands of bikes out of the landfill by repurposing them into rideable bikes. In 2023, they hit a milestone when they gave away their 10,000th bicycle since the organization’s founding in 2017.
Working Bikes - https://workingbikes.org/
Working Bikes gives donated bicycles new life by redistributing them to local and global communities. To date, over 100,000 people have received bikes through this program and benefitted from the most reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly transportation option available. Working Bikes envisions a world where everyone has access to bicycle transportation, whether in Africa or Chicago.
They provide a wide array of bicycle education and programming including Earn-a-Bike, Learn to Ride courses, Bikes for all Mainers, and Girls' Mountain Bike Camps.
Adventure Cycling - https://www.adventurecycling.org/
With over 50,000 members and a bicycle route network covering over 50,000 miles, Adventure Cycling's mission is "to inspire, empower, and connect people to travel by bicycle." Adventure Cycling develops cycling routes, publishes maps, provides guided trips, and advocates for better and safer cycling in the U.S. With the power of the bicycle and community behind them, they work to align the people, places, and infrastructure needed for meaningful bicycle travel.
Portland Gear Hub - https://portlandgearhub.org/
Portland Gear Hub’s mission is to get more youth and adults outside and active by increasing access to affordable, reliable gear. They aim to lower the barrier of entry for those trying cycling for the first time or looking for an affordable mode of transportation.
Wisconsin Bike Fed https://wisconsinbikefed.org/
The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin cultivates, motivates and unites a strong community of citizens and business and political leaders to move bicycling forward in Wisconsin. Planet Bike's support helps fund the Bike Fed's community outreach, educational programming and legislative initiatives.
