BOULDER, COLO. (November 28, 2023) — Outside, a leading outdoor media network, recently announced its 2023 Best Places to Work list. The list, which is published annually, highlights organizations that encourage employees to live an active lifestyle and allow them to achieve a healthy work-life balance. For the first time, the U.S. bicycle industry trade association and advocacy group PeopleForBikes was included on the list.

“Landing on this list is a testament to the hard work of our board and staff who have developed a holistic culture in pursuit of our core purpose — to make life great,” said PeopleForBikes President and CEO Jenn Dice. “This recognition comes during a hard year for the bike industry, impacting our budgets and giving even greater meaning to the value of creating an intentional culture that attracts and retains passionate team members who believe in our work and our mission.”

A common thread highlighted in PeopleForBikes’ profile is the organization’s goal of making the U.S. the best place in the world to ride a bike. To support staff in their mission-driven work, PeopleForBikes instituted an internal #PeopleForParties staff committee focused on helping the staff feel like they belong and celebrating and recognizing team members for living out the organization’s core values (put others first, include everyone, and it can always be better).

“A collective dedication to our core values is what motivates our team to advance our larger vision," said JJ Trout, PeopleForBikes’ chief of staff.

The organization’s core value of including everyone also comes to life through a cross-departmental internal diversity, equity, and inclusion committee and sustainability group who work to progress the organization’s corporate social responsibility goals while sharing lessons learned with the broader bicycle industry.

“Our goal is to shape a bike industry where you can build a long-term professional career that rewards and supports you every step of your career journey,” said Dice. “To attract more women, more people of color, more diverse leadership, and more diverse audiences and participants, it starts internally.”

“Through my participation in PeopleForBikes’ industry Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Subcommittee, I’ve had a front row seat to witness the PeopleForBikes team's passion for making our industry a more inclusive place,” said Eliot Jackson, chairman and co-founder of Grow Cycling Foundation. “Many of the ideas and best practices their team brings to the industry are first vetted internally, helping us build on a strong foundation for success.”

In addition to PeopleForBikes, Workstand (formerly SmartEtailing) also represented the bicycle industry on the Outside Best Places to Work list.
