Milan, London, 1.11.2023 - Cinelli is proud to announce the launch of its internal steel framebuilding manufacturing facilities, located onsite in its Milan factory and HQ.
Since April 2023 all frames from the high-performance Nemo family have been welded in the Cinelli Milan factory by a team of specialist artisan framebuilders, marking the first time in the company’s history since 1980 that steel production has been internalized. Leveraging Columbus tubes manufactured in the same facility, Cinelli’s Milan framebuilding workshop represents one of the shortest and most sustainable supply chains in the biking industry.
The decision to bring steel framebuilding operations once again to Cinelli’s factory is of course a romantic idea, driven by a passion for the craft of handmade high-end performance bicycles and steeped in the brand’s passion for il grande ciclismo, but also a pragmatic one that offers the company and its customers three key advantages:
-
The ability to build stronger, lighter frames with more unique features thanks to daily dialogue between design, welding and engineering teams
-
Development of the world’s shortest and most integrated production supply chain for performance bicycle frames, thanks to shared workshop space with Columbus, the world’s leading bicycle tubing manufacturer. This certainly leads to a significantly lower carbon footprint and more sustainable production processes than that of typical carbon fiber manufacturing.
-
Serve the customer better with faster delivery and after-sales care
This important milestone will be celebrated in London this week at the screening of Made in Milano, a short video dedicated to the Cinelli framebuilding process and history at Vélo Hub (Wed 1.11.23, 7 p.m. VELO HUB, 215 Lower Clapton Rd, London E5 8EG), as well as the launch of the 2024 Nemo range at Rouleur Live (Thur 2-Sat 4.11.23, ROULEUR LIVE, Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Ln, London E1 6QR).
Cinelli also announces the launch of the 2024 Cinelli Nemo Gravel, Cinelli’s flagship Made in Italy gravel bike. Nemo Gravel launches this week on the Cinelli website (cinelli-milano.com ) and at authorized dealers.
The 2024 Nemo Gravel represents the first new model to be designed in direct collaboration between the framebuilding, engineering and design teams. In line with a trend towards ever more extreme and technical riding within both competitive and amateur gravel scenes, the Nemo Gravel looks to offer the rider the highest level of off-road support whilst maintaining the stiffness, speed and nimble handling of a road-derived gravel bike.
In particular the Nemo Gravel is defined by several proprietary new features including:
-
700 x 47 mm tyre clearance, thanks to the development of the new investment cast yoke
-
Offered with two alternative fork options: HiRide Sterra fork with 20mm true hydraulic travel, or rigid Columbus Disc 1-1/8” - 1-1/2” Carbon Monocoque fork with proprietary dual rake system, allowing for customization of bike handling according to the rider’s needs and preferences
-
Lowered seat tube welding point and new custom-shaped seatstays for increased comfort
-
CNC’d aluminium seatpost collar for improved maintenance and longevity
