Portland, OR - Showers Pass today welcomes a new partner, Maine GearShare, to the “Enjoy All Elements” campaign, continuing its mission to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of enjoying outdoor activities in rain, wind, sun, and cold. Part of a growing list of Outdoors Empowered Network gear libraries, the non-profit Maine GearShare recently launched its pilot program, aiming to increase access to the outdoors for all – especially youth.
"A key aspect of Maine GearShare's mission is helping outdoor learning organizations serve more youth and families through a reduction in gear costs and access to quality gear,” says Liv Berg, Executive Director at Maine GearShare. “Many [young people] have their first outdoor experiences within school-based field trip programs or community summer programs and if each student has appropriate gear, such as Showers Pass' high-quality, waterproof outerwear, the outcome of these experiences is more likely to… spur the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts.”
Outdoors Empowered Network manages nineteen gear libraries throughout the United States, reducing one of the biggest barriers to entry for hundreds of thousands of young people that want to engage in outdoor adventuring. To date, Showers Pass has donated over $10,500 in gear to OEN, and the “Enjoy All Elements” campaign has logged over 48,000 hours spent outside in all kinds of weather.
