Set to launch 31 new stations in Spring 2020
DETROIT (Oct. 30, 2019) – MoGo, Detroit’s non-profit bike share system, announced today station locations for its planned expansion. Set to launch in Spring 2020, MoGo will add 31 new stations and 140 bikes to central northwest Detroit, as well as Ferndale, Royal Oak, Oak Park, Berkley, and Huntington Woods, nearly doubling MoGo’s current system size.
“MoGo is proud to partner with our expansion communities in tackling an important piece of the regional transportation puzzle,” said Lisa Nuszkowski, founder and executive director of MoGo. “Bike share is ideal for shorter distance trips, and we are excited to be one step closer to increasing mobility options for more people in metro Detroit.”
Since announcing the system expansion in 2018, MoGo has worked closely with the expansion communities to better understand their transportation challenges and explore how bike share can help address a range of mobility needs. Station locations were determined through a series of community meetings, suggestions from MoGo’s online station siting map and input from local officials.
“We are eagerly awaiting the advent of MoGo as a new transit option in our community,” said Erik Tungate, Oak Park City Manager. “It will complement our efforts to create the highest quality of life with the best public amenities possible.”
Since the start of MoGo’s operations in May 2017, the system has:
Logged more than 338,000 rides
- Sold nearly 5,900 Monthly, Annual, and Access passes, with 2,010 current active members
- Provided affordable options through its $5 annual Access pass, selling over 1,000 to individuals receiving state benefits for a total of 21 percent of all long-term passes sold to date
- Delivered consistent and reliable service by ensuring riders have a more than 99 percent chance of having available bikes and docking points at each station
- Helped riders burn nearly 54 million calories and offsetting 815,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the equivalent of more than 900,000 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle
