Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) is contacting bicycle retailers and consumers about a safety issue with Surly 8-Pack and 24-Pack front racks with the request that these racks be removed from all bikes until a safe resolution is announced. This safety notice follows reports of some front racks loosening, contacting the front wheel and causing accidents, some of which have resulted in injury. This affects all Surly 8-Pack and 24-Pack Racks, and Pack Rat bicycles equipped with a front rack.

"Because the safety of riders is our number one priority, we are asking retailers to contact customers who purchased one of these products and ask them to remove these racks from their bicycles immediately," said Paul Zeigle, Surly Brand Manager. "We are actively working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on a corrective action plan and hope to announce that soon. The priority now is to ensure that all consumers are made aware of the issue, in order to prevent additional incidents, while we pursue a solution that enables everyone to use their rack safely."

In addition to retailer communications, efforts are underway to reach consumers who are being urged to remove these racks from their bikes immediately or visit their nearest bike retailer for assistance.
