With FayetteCross landing here, it's now home to some of the best cyclocross racing in the region."
With elite racers coming to FayetteCross from across the region and all over the United States, the event will be a great opportunity for spectators to see cyclocross racing at the highest level. The two-day event is free for spectators, and food and beverages will be available.
Molly Rawn, executive director for Experience Fayetteville, said, "Along with athletes from around the world, Fayetteville is excited to host everyone who will be coming to take part in the festivities. Adding FayetteCross to the list of world-class events in Fayetteville is an honor, and we look forward to helping give athletes and spectators a memorable experience."
Cyclocross is a very specific type of bicycle racing held mostly in the fall and winter. The sport has parallels with mountain biking, cross-country cycling and criterium racing. The course consists of many laps of a short course over a set time, ranging from 20 to 60 minutes depending on the age group. Racers may encounter obstacles, like barriers, that require hopping on and off the bike at speed.
Competitors of all ages and abilities are anticipated. Offered each day is a $1,500 prize list for Elite Women and Elite Men categories – equal prize money for UCI men and women. Merchandise prizes are offered for all USA Cycling categories.
Centennial Park at Millsaps Mountain is one of the newest additions to the Fayetteville Parks and Recreation system. The new cycling-centric park is an outstanding example of a public-private partnership coming together to benefit the community. It's a beautiful natural area just a few minutes from the Downtown & Dickson Street Entertainment District.
