Rebecca "Bec" Detrich is third director in youth cycling non-profit's 31-year history
Trips for Kids Marin is thrilled to introduce Rebecca "Bec" Detrich as the San Rafael, California -based non-profit's new Executive Director. Detrich takes the reins from Kim Baenisch as only the third Executive Director in the organization's 31-year history.
Trips for Kids Marin delivers transformative cycling experiences to underserved youth in the Bay Area who would not otherwise get the opportunity. The organization also operates the Recyclery Bike Shop in San Rafael, which opened in 1994.
Detrich comes to Trips for Kids Marin with two decades of non-profit program experience, which includes running the field science program at NatureBridge in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Along with her experience as the Director of Education and School Programs at Westminster Woods in Occidental, California, Detrich enjoys a long history of sharing her love of the outdoors with young people.
"As an outdoor educator, I've taught kids how to ski, snorkel, kayak, climb, bike, rappel, and backpack," said Detrich, who started as executive director on May 6. "I am eager to increase the number of kids who get to explore the Bay Area's open spaces on trail rides, teach more kids engineering skills in our Mobile Bike Workshops, keep bikes out of landfills by refurbishing them in our ReCyclery, and foster pride within kids who are part of our Earn-a-Bike Program."
Chuck Lesem, Trips for Kids Marin Board President, said he is excited to have Detrich join the team after an extensive interviewing process vetted many candidates.
"Sharing her enthusiasm for Trips for Kids Marin's mission and presenting a truly extensive skill set, Bec made an immediate connection with the staff and board members," Lesem said. "I am confident that Bec's broad nonprofit and deep program experience will take Trips for Kids Marin to the next stage of its evolution."
Marilyn Price, who founded Trips for Kids Marin in 1988 and served as executive director until 2014, is a member of the TFKM Board of Directors.
