DAYTON, Ohio (May 1, 2019)- The only thing better than riding a bike, is riding with others. Whether it's a parent, spouse, child, sibling or friend, recreational biking is simply better … together. In fact, experts agree that biking with others provides emotional and physical benefits and allows people to strengthen their connections. During the month of May, Huffywill partner with nonprofit Together We Riseand donate bikes to foster families across the US to encourage family togetherness and bonding as they hit the road, trail or bike path.

“At Huffy, we encourage people to get out and Live the Ride, and with more than 125 years of experience, we know people have more fun together,” said John Fowler, Senior Vice President, Product, Marketing, Design at Huffy. “Since May is National Bike Month, we thought it was the perfect time to team up with Together We Rise so more kids and foster families can ride bikes, have fun and build wonderful memories together.”

Together We Rise isa non-profit organization that strives to give children in foster care a brighter future, a sense of normalcy and belonging through multiple programs and a network of passionate volunteers. The organization’s Build-a-Bike program helps kids in foster care have something that is such an important part of childhood, their own bike.

“There’s nothing like the smile on a child’s face when they see a bike and know it’s for them,” said Steven Macias, Donor Relations Manager at Together We Rise. “We’re thrilled to partner with Huffy this month because we know that something as simple as a bicycle can really level the playing field for kids in foster care because it gives them a piece of a normal childhood, in an often uncertain circumstance. We’re really excited that in addition to the bikes for kids, Huffy will donate adult bikes so our foster parents can ride, too. Together We Rise exists to create positive childhood memories for youth in foster care and our partnership with Huffy is an avenue in which this will be made possible; creating bonding experiences for children and their families.”

To celebrate National Bike Month this May, Huffy is offering a 20% discount when two or more bikes are purchased together at Huffy.com using the code MAYSAVE. Huffy wants to encourage families and friends to ride bikes together. Huffy offers scooters, traditional bikes, balance bikes, battery operated ride-ons, and Green Machines for kids, as well as full line of Mountain Bikes, Gravel Bikes, Cruisers and Comfort Bikes for adults.

About Together We Rise

Together We Rise (TWR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. Our vision is to improve the lives of children in foster care, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. We collaborate with individuals, companies, and community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system.

TWR works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring our programs to foster youth across the nation. Our foundation has allowed us to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and suit cases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.
