Taipei, January 28, 2019 — Urban transportation specialist Tern is pleased to announce the addition of a new member to its Board of Directors: Julia W. Sze.

"We're really pleased to have Julia join our Board," stated Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain. "Her expertise in impact investing and sustainability best practices will be incredibly useful as Tern grows and expands. We like innovation—not only in our products but in our management systems, and Julia's guidance will be invaluable."

Impact investing & social entrepreneurship
Having started her career in the traditional investing world, the desire for a more meaningful work has made Julia shift direction towards impact investing—a field that focuses on getting beneficial social and environmental outcomes alongside a positive economic return.

Over the past decade, Julia has been an active speaker and thought leader in the fields of impact investing and social entrepreneurship. She has worked with individuals, family foundations and other social enterprises, acting as a mentor and advisor, and helping translate mission and values into an effective investment strategy.

In addition, Julia has co-taught the Social Lean Launchpad course for social entrepreneurs at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business—ranked among the top ten business schools globally—in the fall of 2018. Working with bright and young individuals trying to make a positive impact in the world has motivated Julia to continue her journey as a lecturer in the future.

Sustainable transport
For Julia, cycling had always been about getting around from A to B until she moved to Marin County over twenty years ago and started to explore the local trails on a mountain bike. Now riding a Tern Vektron, she has discovered how easy it is to bring her two dogs in a bike trailer when going out to a hiking trailhead.

"I'm really excited to be part of Tern's mission to make cycling a fun and functional alternative to driving," said Julia on becoming part of the Tern Board of Directors. "Bikes play an essential role in the future of mobility, and I'm thrilled to see how e-bikes in particular will help us achieve a more sustainable transport."
