PARK CITY, UT (BRAIN)—Backcountry.com now offers its customers access to bikes and gear, giving them the convenience of adding a bike helmet or fork to the rock-climbing helmet and skis already in their cart.
The move does not affect the company’s bicycle-specific sites—CompetitiveCyclist.com, RealCyclist.com, HucknRoll.com and Chainlove.com.
“Backcountry has offered all the staples of the cycling life except for bike gear itself,” said Brendan Quirk, Backcountry.com’s bike general manager. “I was living proof that cyclists loved shopping at Backcountry, and that nothing would be better than if Backcountry had a comprehensive selection of bike-specific gear. I'm proud to say that the day has come.”
The move allows the company to bring bikes to its Backcountry customers that might never visit its bicycle-specific websites. Bikes and bike gear will augment Backcountry’s selection of outdoor gear for hiking, camping, climbing, paddling, kayaking, trail running, fly fishing, skiing, and snowboarding, creating a product mix for customers who do everything outside.
Backcountry.com and the other sports sites mentioned are part of BuySeasons, Inc., which in turn is owned by Liberty Media, a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: LINTA) that also own QVC and Expedia, among other brands.
