Specialized releases limited edition McLaren S-Works Tarmac

Published July 2, 2014

MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — Specialized is continuing to work with the legendary auto racing company, McLaren, working with the company to develop a limited edition $20,000 S-Works McLaren Tarmac bike.

Specialized will build 250 of the bikes, which will be sold with a pair of S-Works road shoes and S-Works Prevail helmet, both color matched to the bike. The sale also includes a Body Geometry fit and available custom sizing of the crank, stem, handlebar and saddle. It also includes a personalized name plate and wall-mount plaque for displaying the bike, shoes and helmet.

The company said the S-Works McLaren Tarmac maintains the performance characteristics of the standard S-Works Tarmac while reducing the weight of the overall frame and fork by between 9- and 11 percent depending on frame size. It's spec'd with a CLX40R tubular wheelset that's more than 90 grams lighter than a standard set of CLX 40 wheels. The custom paintwork and graphics are applied at McLaren Special Operations in Woking, Surrey UK.

The limited edition run will have a reservation process extended to invited customers and via www.specialized.com/sworksmclaren. The reservation process opened July 2 and will close July 31 or while availability lasts.
