Published February 11, 2015

SEATTLE (BRAIN) — Seattle will be the host venue of the Youth Bike Summit, a three-day conference geared toward youth, bikes, education, advocacy and leadership coming up Feb. 13-15.

The event includes more than 30 hands-on workshops, panel presentations and keynote speakers. It will be held at various venues in the Columbia City neighborhood.

Among the speakers at this year's event are Seattle Mayor Ed Murray; Elysa Walk, general manager of Giant Bicycle; Jim and Keilan Sayer of Adventure Cycling; and U.S. Olympic track cyclist Jennie Reed. Other speakers are Shannon Galpin of Mountain2Mountain, Jason Hall of Slow Roll, Adonia Lugo of the League of American Bicyclists, Brook Negussie, freshman at the University of Washington and Cascade Bicycle Club member, and local retailer Kahlil Brewer of Bike Works. Cascade Bicycle Club is the event's sponsor.

Last year the Youth Bike Summit drew more than 500 youth and adults from 26 states and four countries. The first Youth Bike Summit was organized in 2011 by two high school interns at Recycle-A-Bicycle in Brooklyn, N.Y., after they attended the League of American Bicyclist's annual Bike Summit. The pair realized the importance of engaging youth in the national dialogue of cycling education and advocacy.

Admission is $25 for youth; $50 for adult. More information: YouthBikeSummit.org.
