SEATTLE, WA (BRAIN) — REI plans to open a new store in Knoxville, Tennessee, in fall 2014. The Knoxville store will be REI’s second location in the state, joining a store in Brentwood.

“As an outdoor retailer, REI is committed to inspiring and educating people to lead active lifestyles,” said Gail Kirkland, REI retail director for the South district. “Our expertise, programming and products will enhance anyone’s trips to explore outdoor places, like Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”

REI plans to hire about 50 new employees to staff the 23,500-square-foot store next fall.

Headquartered in Seattle, REI is the largest U.S. consumer cooperative, with more than 5 million active members. The company currently has 129 stores in 32 states and sells bikes from brands including Electra, Raleigh, Diamondback, Cannondale, GT, Scott and house brand Novara, in addition to cycling apparel, accessories and auto racks.
