Greg Hind dies at 66

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (BRAIN) — Greg Hind, founder of Hind Performance and GH Sports, died Wednesday after a short illness. He was 66.

Hind founded Hind Performance in the early 1970s. The company was an early leader in using Lycra fabric in athletic gear, including bicycle clothing. Hind later left that company and founded GH Sports with his wife. 

Hind was well known in San Luis Obispo for his philanthropic activity through the Hind Foundation and personally. The foundation is active in land conservation and the arts. According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, Hind was named the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2010. 

Hind was named Athlete of the Year in 1965 at Santa Clara Valley High School and was a three-time All-American in water polo at San Jose State. He was a gold medalist in the sport at the 1967 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada.

According to the Tribune, no public memorial is planned.

Greg Hind's father Harry, a well-known and successful inventor and philanthropist, died in April at 96.
