"It only looks like attendance is down ... "

LAS VEGAS, NV (BRAIN) — Thirty years (or 31?) after he co-founded the Interbike Expo, the industry honored Steve Ready last month during the expo here, bestowing a BRAINy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ready, now retired, was characteristically generous and modest in his acceptance speech, sharing a few stories about the early days, and giving credit to his colleagues and successors at Interbike and the National Bicycle Dealers Association.

Ready joked that he kept a brown paper bag handy for when he needed to become the Unknown Show Director, and he conceded he might once have told people that attendance only appeared to be down because the show aisles were wider than usual (he may, in fact, have used that line on a BRAIN reporter in the early 90s).
