Published November 2, 2015

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — CatEye is announcing a new series of front and rear safety lights, designed to be streamlined and lightweight for day or night use. The announcement was tiomed to coincide with the end of Daylight Savings Time over the weekend.

The Rapid X line-up includes three models, with front and rear versions of each available.  The $60 Rapid X3 is the newest addition to the line-up, boasting 200 lumens in front and 100 lumens in the rear.  The $50 Rapid X2 features 100 lumens in front and 50 in the rear, and CatEye said it complements most forks and seatposts.  The $40 Rapid X has 50 lumens in the front and 25 in the rear, and melds seamlessly onto thinner forks and most seatstays when seatpost mounting isn’t an option.

CatEye said all Rapid X series lights feature excellent side visibility and can be easily mounted to almost any application, including round and aero seatposts, seatstays, handlebars, forks, headtubes and even most helmets.  The optional Spacer X accessory allows Rapid X models to be fit to existing CatEye FlexTight, rear rack, saddle rail and Fizik saddle brackets.

With minimal weight or aerodynamic penalties, CatEye is encouraging all riders to run safety lights on all rides, even during the day.  To draw attention to the important issue of of daytime safety light use, the Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis riders ran the Rapid X2 Rear during the Breckenridge time trial stage of the USA Pro Challenge stage race.

CatEye's vp of marketing, Jeff Wilbur, said  “With car-on-bike accidents on the rise, we strongly urge all riders to run flashing front and rear lights on every ride, night and day.  The increased visibility a cyclist gains with a flashing light is critical to staying safe, and now that safety lights are light, aero and easily installed almost anywhere, there’s just no excuse not to make them permanent fixtures on the bike."

Authorized CatEye dealers will receive an email offering a Rapid X2 POP Special.  The kit includes a sampling of Rapid X2 fronts and rears, two display lights and a countertop POP, and gives retailers the opportunity to earn 67-point margins on the products included in the kit.  Limit one per retail location.

CatEye said quantities of the Rapid X2 POP kit are limited, so interested current and prospective dealers are encouraged to contact their inside sales reps immediately at 1-800-5-CATEYE.
