NORTHVALE, N.J. (BRAIN) — Jamis Bicycles has launched a new line of enduro bikes called the Defcon Series, that includes three models all sharing the same 160mm travel frame platform.
"We started with a blank slate and tweaked this design over the last two years," said Jamis mountain bike product manager Sal Crochiola. "Our goal was to design a modern enduro bike we wanted to ride on the highly technical terrain of our local East Coast trails and a bike that would compete at the highest level of global Enduro racing. We're really excited about, and super proud of, the performance we've built into this new platform."
The frames feature Jamis' mp4 suspension system. Besides performance, the system was developed to be low maintenance. "We're big proponents of actually getting out on your bike, riding more and spending less time fiddling with your suspension to get it working right. We've spent years, decades really, refining our pivot placement and stripping complexity out of our suspension designs to allow the shocks to do their job separately."
Jamis will be making a fleet of the new bikes available for demo's through the Jamis Test Ride Experience trailer. More information on defconbikes.com.
The frames are made with aluminum tubes custom shaped via SPF Air Forming, which the company said allows more optimized shaping than other forming techniques such as hydroforming.
The frames also feature a custom one-piece bell crank that increases frame stiffness while allowing for the elimination of a seat stay bridge for more tire and suspension clearance and shoter stays. The pivots us Enduro Max bearings with CRC Marine Grease. The shock hardware is 10mm diameter, a larger diameter that Jamis specifies for increased durability and stiffness. Asymmetrical chainstays maximize rear-end stiffness and tire clearance.
The Defcon models retail for $2,799, $3,799 and $4,899. More information on defconbikes.com.
