CeramicSpeed offers 3D-printed hollow titanium pulley wheels

Published March 9, 2015

HOLSTEBRO, Denmark (BRAIN) — The Danish brand CeramicSpeed is offering a limited edition hollow titanium derailleur pulley set, produced by 3D printing.

The company showed the pulleys at last weekend's North American Handmade Bike Show and plans to display them again at the upcoming Taipei International Cycle Show.

The product was a collaboration between CeramicSpeed and the Danish Technological Institute.

The pulley wheels have three times the durability of CeramicSpeed's standard aluminum pulleys and are 10 percent lighter. They are also 25 percent lighter than the company's standard titanium pulley wheels. The wheels are compatible with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo derailleurs, 10 and 11 speed.

The first production of the pulley wheels is being sold as a limited edition of 10 marked sets, each delivered in a special case. The limited edition sets will sell for $1,000.

"We like to always keep ourselves up-to-date with the novelties within the tech world. Once we do that, we have the freedom to experiment with design in a creative way, at the same time upgrading and optimizing our products' features. We now introduce no less than the world's most innovative pulley wheel, and we owe it to our belief that modern technology and innovation is what describes us best," said Martin Banke, the managing director at CeramicSpeed.
