45NRTH introduces two new winter cycling gloves

Published November 13, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (BRAIN) — 45NRTH is launching a two-model line of gloves designed for cold-weather riding — with one model intended for riding in 15-to-35 degree conditions and the other for riding when it's between zero and 15 degrees out.

Both outer gloves feature 2 mm-thick Aerogel pads in the fingers and palms that are intended to reduce conductive heat loss to a bike's handlebars.

The warmer glove model, called the Sturmfist 4, will retail for $130. The "4" in the model name refers to the outer glove's four-finger design, which is actually one thumb and three fingers, with the ring finger and pinkie cuddling up together in one finger space. It comes with a removable liner made of 250-gram wool with silicone grip material on the fingers and palm. The touchscreen-compatible liner glove, which has five fingers, will also be available separately for $50 retail.

The Sturmfist 4 outer glove has 300-gram Polartec Alpha insulation, Polartec Neoshell material on the back of the hand and Pittards leather in the palm. It will be available in four sizes.

The less-extreme glove, the Sturmfist 5, will retail for $100. It has a five-finger design and uses 100-gram Polartec Alpha insulation, combined with wool insulation next to the skin. Like the Sturmfist 4, it has Aerogel pads, Polartec Neoshell on the back of the hand and Pittards leather in the palm and will be available in four sizes.

The gloves will be available next week from QBP, 45NRTH's parent company. More information: 45nrth.com.
