Iowa students wins Saris' poster contest • VCU joins Fuji University Bike program • Voting open for Foundry Tradesman and Tradeswomen finalists • Bicyclinghub.com marks ten-year anniversary, welcomes Marc Kipp

MADISON, WI (BRAIN) Monday April 9 2012 3:50 PM MT—Isabell Gehrt, a fifth grader from Iowa, is the winner of the 2012 Saris Poster Contest and will attend the 2012 National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C.

More than 6,300 students from 25 states participated in the contest by submitting posters centered on the theme "Bicycling takes me places!" Winners were also selected at the state level. Each will receive a bike, bike light, and helmet. The National Winning School will receive bike parking for 20 bikes and The Hub, a web-based system that tracks and encourages active transportation.

"Over the past 20 years in the bike industry I have seen the bicycle positively change the lives of many individuals as well as communities," said Chris Fortune, president of Saris Cycling Group.

Besides Saris, the contest was sponsored by Schwinn, Planet Bike and Lazer.


VCU joins Fuji University Bike program

PHILADELPHIA, PA (BRAIN) Monday April 9 2012 3:57 PM MT—Virginia Commonwealth University is the newest member of Fuji University, a program to make high-quality, affordable bikes part of campus life.

VCU's Outdoor Adventure Program recently bought 60 Fuji road and mountain bikes for student, faculty, and staff use. The bikes will be available for rent.

“VCU’s sustainability programs are exceptional and bringing Fuji University on campus is only going to enhance their already stellar green initiatives,” said Jeff Buyer, Fuji’s new business and specialty sales manager.

“We’re happy to help this distinguished university build a cycling-friendly community and greener future, as well as provide the VCU students, faculty, and staff with dependable, high-performance bicycles that will hopefully instill a love and appreciation of cycling for years to come.”


Roadbikeworld.com and System-D team up for neutral race support

BEVERLY, MA (BRAIN) Monday April 9 2012 4:01 PM MT—Roadbikeworld.com, the new road bike e-commerce site set up by cyclocrossworld.com founder Stu Thorne, is working with Système-D to offer neutral race support at East Coast road races this season.

Système-D was founded by industry veteran Chris Zigmont. The company focuses on providing neutral support to all race categories, not just elite racers.

Système-D will provide neutral support at the Canadian road national championships, le Tour de Beauce, the Tour of the Battenkill, the Quabbin Reservoir Classic Road Race, the Portsmouth Criterium and the Tour of Sommerville.


Voting open for Foundry Tradesman and Tradeswomen finalists

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (BRAIN) Monday April 9 2012 4:11 PM MT—Foundry Cycles has narrowed down its applicant list for enthusiasts hoping to represent the brand at events this year.

The company has narrowed the list to 15 finalists in five regions and is putting it to a vote to choose one finalist from each region. Those interested are invited to vote on foundrycycles.com/rideforfoundry.


Bicyclinghub.com marks ten-year anniversary, welcomes Marc Kipp

PORTLAND, OR (BRAIN) Monday April 9 2012 4:15 PM MT—Bicyclinghub.com has been selling cycling apparel online since March 2002 and now has a retail showroom at 642 SE Stark Street in Portland.

Marc Kipp, formerly of Colorado Cyclist, has recently joined Bicyclinghub.com.

“I'm thrilled and amazed at the number of hardcore cyclists in Portland who ride in all weather conditions. You just don't see that kind of dedication in other places. The support of the cycling community here is unparalleled in my experience,” Kipp said.
