Felt adds to marketing and creative staff • Exergy Tour offers $100,000 prize list

IRVINE, CA (BRAIN) Wednesday April 4 2012 11:26 AM MT—Felt Bicycles has added two new staff members to its marketing and creative departments.

Skyler Wallace joins Felt as brand marketing manager, a newly created position. Wallace is an avid cyclist and triathlete with professional advertising agency and marketing experience, most recently as a senior strategic planner for Saatchi & Saatchi where he developed traditional and digital advertising strategies for Toyota trucks and SUVs. Wallace will oversee all of Felt’s brand-related efforts including print and digital advertising, catalogs, brochures, consumer and social site efforts, and identity-related marketing efforts.

Doug Martin becomes Felt’s new sports marketing manager. Martin will oversee all of Felt’s teams and athletes, sponsorships, properties, and events. He will also continue to manage the
company’s media relations.

“We are very excited with this new marketing arrangement and feel it will translate into greater productively and awareness, for both Felt and our customers.” said Bill Duehring, Felt's president.

In Felt’s in-house creative department, veteran artist Bob Thomson has been promoted to senior graphic designer, and Cody Alderson joins Felt as its newest graphic designer.


Exergy Tour offers $100,000 prize list

BOISE, ID (BRAIN) Wednesday April 4 2012 11:35 AM MT— Organizers of the 2012 Exergy Tour, a women's stage race in Idaho, have announced a $100,000 prize list for the five-day event.

The prize list may be the largest every offered for a comparable women's race and is one of the largest in the U.S. for either gender. For comparison, the 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado, a pro men's race, offered a $55,000 prize list. The Nature Valley Grand Prix, one of the best known stage races on the National Racing Calendar, will offer a men's prize list of $25,000 and a women's list of $15,000 this year.

Organizers said the big prize is line with the event's goal of promoting professional women's cycling.

“One of the primary reasons we founded the Exergy Tour is to help gain notoriety and exposure for the advancement of women’s professional cycling and to encourage media, corporate sponsors, governing bodies, spectators and fans to recognize the value of women’s competitive athletics,” said James Carkulis, CEO of Exergy Development Group, title sponsor of the race.

“Offering a significant payout for this race elevates the excitement to a level equal in stature to men’s pro cycling. Our hope is for the Exergy Tour to bring opportunities for both marketing and the media to open up more possibilities for women’s cycling in the USA and abroad.” 

Last week the race named the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport as its official charitable partner. The partnership honors the 40th anniversary of Title IX in June.

Seventeen of the top women's pro cycling teams from nine countries are scheduled to compete in the inaugural race, which will be held May 24-28.
