Sea Otter Classic Adds ‘Cross Races

Published November 10, 2011

MONTEREY, CA (BRAIN)—Organizers of the Sea Otter Classic announced the addition of cyclocross races to the annual four-day race and outdoor festival next year. Sea Otter will offer both men’s and women’s professional and amateur divisions as well as single speed, messenger and industry cup races.

“During the last few years, cyclocross has grown with a cult-like fanaticism as a participatory and spectator sport," said Frank Yohannan, president and CEO of the Sea Otter Classic. "It fits right in with the festival atmosphere and the celebration of everything cycling that makes up Sea Otter."

The ‘cross races will take place Saturday afternoon. The course will snake through the Sea Otter Expo and Laguna Seca Lakebed area and will include off-camber and “kitty litter” sections, a high-speed barrier section and other obstacles.

Raleigh America is the presenting sponsor.

The Sea Otter Classic, which attracts more than 50,000 attendees, is scheduled for April 19-22 in Monterey, California’s Laguna Seca Recreation Area.
