John Thompson Leaves Specialized

MORGAN HILL, CA (BRAIN)—After close to 15 years with Specialized Bicycle Components, John “JT” Thompson has resigned from his position as director of U.S. sales, according to an email that went out to dealers Monday evening.

“I want to personally thank JT for his years of service with Specialized, and his efforts in supporting our dealers,” Mike Abbott, general manager of Specialized USA, wrote in the letter.

Abbott asked that in the meantime, dealers direct sales-related questions to their reps and regional managers, assuring them that it will be business as usual as the company restructures its sales department in light of the change.

Thompson joined Specialized in 1997 as regional sales manager. And after leaving in 1998 for a short stint as North American sales manager for Ferrari North America, returned to Specialized in 1999 as central sales manager. Through the years he held various sales titles at the company including Eastern regional sales manager and national sales manager.

A former Cat I track racer, Thompson has been in the industry—off and on—since the age of 14.
