The 5th Spot

It was an event 36 years in the making, so it was no surprise that Specialized Bicycle Components popped a few bottles of bubbly Monday to celebrate Alberto Contador’s win at the 2010 Tour de France—the first ever in the company’s history.

The celebration, held at the Morgan Hill, CA headquarters, invited Specialized employees to toast not only Contador’s GC win, but the successes of second-place Andy Schleck, TT-dominator Fabian Cancellara and consummate wildcard Alexandre Vinokourov, and the rest of the Saxo Bank and Astana efforts.

“We’ve enjoyed success in the classics, but the greatest of the grand tours had eluded us for so long,” said senior interactive manager Sean McLaughlin. “To emerge first and second in one of the most thrilling Tours of the modern era really is a dream come true.”

Employees were treated to chilled Champagne, a lunch catered by Evol Burritos and a Jersey-Yellow custom cake to compliment their custom Yellow Specialized Waterbottles and Limited Edition yellow victory t-shirts.”
