Performance Adds New Hire; Joins Bikes Belong

Published November 30, 2011

CHAPEL HILL, NC (BRAIN)—Performance Bicycle has hired Carol Wentworth as senior vice president of marketing. She will develop and manage strategic marketing for the company.

Wentworth brings more than 20 years of retail marketing, advertising and e-commerce experience to the role. Most recently, she served as vice president of marketing at True Value Company for nine years, helping drive the company’s brand strategy, in-store experience, e-commerce business and market research.

Before True Value, she worked in marketing at several companies including Fred Meyer, Campbell-Mithun-Esty Advertising, Bread & Circus Supermarkets (now Whole Foods Market) and Northampton Food Cooperative.

Performance also has joined the Bikes Belong Coalition. CEO David Pruitt will serve on the advocacy group’s board of directors, joining 18 other company CEOs and senior leaders.

Bikes Belong president Tim Blumenthal said Performance’s membership should increase exposure for the advocacy group and build awareness for cycling.

"They're the largest specialty retailer out there," Blumenthal said. "They have a really big online business and frankly, they're the biggest bike enterprise that hasn't been a Bikes Belong member," Blumenthal said, adding that companies like Huffy and Pacific have long been members. "There aren't too many companies that are selling a lot of bikes or parts who aren't members of Bikes Belong."

“We look forward to working with Bikes Belong to encourage more people across the country to participate in cycling, and to help the Coalition bring awareness to issues that affect cycling at the local, state and federal levels,” said Pruitt, in the release.

Last year, Performance Bicycle helped gather signatures for Peopleforbikes.org, a Bikes Belong campaign to get 1 million Americans to sign a pledge for safer and more convenient bicycling in America.
