Burley recalls Tailwind racks

Published November 26, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BRAIN) — Burley Design is recalling about 4,150 Tailwind racks used for hitching children’s trailer cycles to adult-size bicycles because the top portion can break and allow the trailer cycle to disconnect.

The aluminum racks were sold in black or silver or with Kazoo or Piccolo brand trailer cycles in black. The racks, which have double side rails, have stock code numbers 939001 for black and 939002 for silver printed on the original packaging. "Burley" is printed on the curved back plate of the rack. Individual racks sold for $65 and Kazoo and Piccolo trailer cycles with Tailwind racks sold for $300 and $350.

In the CPSC recall notice, Burley said it received 11 reports of the racks breaking, including one report of a minor injury in the U.S. and one of a broken leg in the U.K.

The Eugene, Oregon-based company will replace the recalled rack with a steel Moose Rack. It’s instructing consumers to contact the company to receive the free replacement.
