PowerTap offers power metering pedals and chainring

Published March 17, 2015

MADISON, Wis. (BRAIN) — PowerTap is branching out from its power meter rear hub to new products: a power meter pedal and chainring.

"With the introduction of these new products, PowerTap will lead the industry by becoming the first and only cycling power meter company with a complete portfolio of power meter products for multiple locations on the bike," the company said.

The P1 road pedal is a one-piece design that does not require calibration, distinguishing it from options like the Garmin Vector, which has a separate piece attached to the bottom of each crankarm. It also has dual-band ANT+ and Bluetooth SMART connectivity and weighs 398 grams per pair.

"We have spent the past 15 years learning from and educating cyclists on all facets of training with power," said PowerTap's president, Jeff Frehner. "Our passion for making cyclists better by utilizing power measurement remains at the core of why we are in this business. We strive to always be the experts in the power measurement category."

PowerTap also announced a new G3 disc hub, which is 180 grams lighter than its previous disc mountain bike rear hub and is available with 142x12 or 136QR axles. And a new Joule GPS+ head unit is dual-band compatible.

The company announced the new products early Tuesday. It did not release pricing or availability information.
