Mavic goes Enduro with new wheel/tire sets and shoes

Published June 18, 2013

HAVERHILL, MA (BRAIN) — Mavic is introducing its first mountain bike wheel-tire combo, the Crossmax Enduro WTS. The wheelset, available in 26-inch and 27.5-inch versions, is intended for enduro racing. The company also is introducing a new shoe intended for the fast-growing discipline.

The wheel-tire system includes the Enduro WTS wheels, which have wide aluminum UST rims, with 20 bladed Zicral spokes front and 24 rear spokes. The front hubs are ready for 15 or 20 millimeter through axles; a 9 millimeter quick release option also will be available. The rear hub comes ready to fit 9x135, 12x135, and 12x142 axles.

The set comes with a UST-ready Crossmax Charge front tire in 2.4-inch width. The rear tire is the Crossmax Roam XL in 2.3-inch width.

The set will be available in the U.S. next month at an MSRP of $1,000. Replacement tires will also be available, at $80 MSRP for the front and $75 for the rear.

The Crossmax Enduro shoe is something for a hybrid of two previous Mavic shoe models. It was designed to combine the light weight, foot hold, and rigidity of the Fury race shoe with the walk-ability, toughness, and higher volume fit of the Alpine XL. The Enduro borrows the Ergo Lite ratchet buckle from the Fury and the quick lace system used on the Alpine XL. It has a grippy outsold with extra tread lugs for walking traction, a reinforced toe cap and a perforated neoprene ankle cuff for extra protection. The shoes will be available in the U.S. in September for $189.95 MSRP.
