Bike-alog Puts Bike Specs on Web

Published October 16, 2007

GOLETA, CA (BRAIN)—Bike-alog is publishing on the Web its vast database of bike specs for every year back to 1993.

By Interbike, nearly all announced 2008 models will also be online with photos. The specs can be accessed through the company’s main page at Bike-alog.com or through the “QuickBike.com” shortcut. There is also a special site, 29erMTB.com, devoted specifically to 29-inch wheel mountain bikes.

The site highlights Bike-alog shops in the consumer’s locale as sponsors, and it links directly to BestBikeShops.com, a shop locater of Bike-alog member stores, along with a mini-page of information about the shop.

“General consumer bicycle Web sites essentially never tell people how they can buy products locally,” said Andrew Garthoff, Bike alog’s product manager. “In fact, most of them direct people to mail order only operations. Now consumers can find the most complete bike specs on the Web, then find local IBDs who have more detailed information and can provide the sales, service and expertise to get them started right.”

Vendor and wholesale price information plus additional technical information in the Bike-alog database is available only to member retailers.
