Montgomery leaves Backcountry.com, starts consulting business

Published January 30, 2014

PARK CITY, Utah (BRAIN) — Adrian Montgomery recently left online retailer Backcountry.com where he was director of brand marketing. Montgomery, who took the position last summer, relocated to Utah from Sun Valley, Idaho, for the job.

Montgomery has launched a consulting business.

“I’ve started my own business, First Tracks PR & Marketing,” Montgomery told BRAIN. “I'm offering consultation to brands in challenging market positions who are looking for additional support. The business is only a week old, but I'm already busy. I'm doing this part time until I find the right home in an outdoor, bike or action sports brand.”

Montgomery, who previously worked for Scott USA, said his last day at Backcountry was Jan. 7.

Sources informed BRAIN that Backcountry.com had trimmed down its staff at the start of the year. But the online retailer declined to comment or confirm this news.

Backcountry.com operates seven specialty stores: Backcountry.com, Dogfunk.com, Competitive Cyclist, SteepandCheap.com, WhiskeyMilitia.com, Chainlove.com, and DepartmentofGoods.com.

Backcountry.com is a controlled subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation, which is part of the Liberty Interactive Group (traded on Nasdaq under the LINTA, LINTB symbols).
