GILBERT, AZ (BRAIN) — Participation at USA BMX National Series events was up by double-digit percentages at four of the series' early season events, the organization is reporting.

"We knew that coming off of an Olympic year that excitement would be good," said John David, COO of USA BMX. "We are very pleased with our early season surge and many of our long-term venues are also experiencing significant increases."

Attendance at last week's Great Northwest Nationals in Redmond, Oregon, was up 35 percent over last year. The week before, the event in Powder Springs, Georgia, saw a 16 percent increase, while the earlier Super Nationals in DeSoto, Texas, was up 11 percent and the Winter Nationals in Phoenix in early March was up 46 percent.

"We have some incredible venues and great locations on this years' schedule," said David, "and we are already excited about putting together a solid schedule for 2014."
